The OTM campaign was officially declared in 2005 during the Transport Lekgotla and it is used to raise awareness on the important role of transport in the economy, to solicit participation from civil society and business in providing a safer, more affordable, efficient accessible and reliable transport system.

The campaign is used to engage in initiative showcasing progress achieved in various transport programmes and projects and to promote short and long-term transport plans of the DoT, Provinces, Public Entities & Metros (incl. flagship projects).

Through the OTM campaign, the department highlights the role and successes of all stakeholders in creating safe modes of transport and contributions towards socio-economic development innovations.

The OTM campaign also creates a platform to mobilise public and private sector participation in transport projects aimed at developing the country’s economy and for sustainable job creation.

NB: A calendar of events for the 2013 October Transport Month campaign will be available on the website of the department.
