Minister of Tourism, Patricia De Lille to conduct oversight visit and stakeholder engagement in Overberg Region, Western Cape

On Thursday 14 September, 2023, Minister of Tourism, Patricia de Lille, will meet with tourism stakeholders in the Overberg region in the Western Cape to discuss key tourism issues and provide an update on the state of tourism. This engagement will give further impetus to the Tourism Sector Recovery Plan as we gear up for a summer season of continued growth.

The Minister will engage tourism stakeholders on their programmes and will update stakeholders in the region on programmes by the Department of Tourism to support inclusive growth in the sector.

The tourism sector is one of the critical intervention areas that has been identified in the country’s Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan as tourism is a key driver of the economic recovery in the country.

Tourism is a significant economic lever supporting and creating many direct and indirect jobs. Tourism is the golden thread that links a host of other sectors with the ultimate goal of delivering a world class South African experience.

The Overberg is home to a unique combination of tourism treasures including pristine landscapes and seascapes with abundant and diverse birdlife and fynbos. Stakeholders will include local tourism enterprises across the value chain as well as representatives from local government.
