Human Settlements ministerial visit to Pixley ka Seme to accelerate service delivery initiatives
Human Settlements Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi will on Tuesday observe this year’s 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children in Emthanjeni and Renosterberg Local Municipalities in the Northern Cape.
In her capacity as the Champion for Pixley Ka Seme District Municipality, Minister Kubayi together with the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Human Settlements, Bentley Vass, and District Mayor Cllr. Rhoode Itumeleng, will on Tuesday hand over a house to 62-year-old Ms. Xakiwe Vumazonke, who stayed in a dilapidated structure without water, electricity, and sanitation. This is in line with the theme for the 16 days of Activism Campaign “Accelerating actions to end gender-based violence & femicide: leaving no one behind” and particularly the sub theme “Safe access for women to clean water: a basic human right”.
The Ministerial delegation will also use the occasion to observe other commemorative days during this 16-day period, including World Aids Day and the International Day for Persons with Disabilities. The visit will provide a platform of engagement on the implementation of the District Development Model in the province to improve service delivery and ensure maximum coordination and cooperation among all three spheres of government. This includes enhancing monitoring and evaluation to effectively implement government policies and initiatives to deal with, amongst others, gender-based violence, femicide and teenage pregnancy. The community will also receive a status update on the Thuthuzela Care Centre and initiatives by law enforcement agencies.
The programme will conclude with a candle lighting ceremony in memory of the departed due to HIV and Aids and those affected by GBVF.
