Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane and Deputy Minister Fish Mahlalela pre-State of the Nation Address activities in Cape Town, 12 Feb

Tourism highlights success stories and partnerships ahead of SONA activities in Cape Town

The Minister of Tourism, Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane and Deputy Minister Fish Mahlalela will visit Cape Town tourism attractions and interact with stakeholders on 12 February 2020 as part of the pre-State of the Nation Address (SoNA) activities. Tourism is identified as one of the focal areas of government for economic growth and job creation.

Visit Bo- Kaap Museum:  Deputy Minister Fish Mahlalela will visit the Bo-Kaap and the Iziko Museum to get a better understanding of the historic area that attracts thousands of tourists annually.

District 6 Museum: Deputy Minister Mahlalela will visit the District 6 Museum as part of remembering liberation heroes and heroines. District Six Foundation was founded in 1989 and the museum in 1994, as a memorial to the forced movement of 60,000 inhabitants of various races in District Six during apartheid in the 1970s.

UWC Robben Island Mayibuye Archives: Deputy Minister Mahlalela will visit the archives which consists of unique multimedia collections depicting multiple facets of resistance of the freedom struggle that was waged against apartheid from within and outside the borders of South Africa.

The visit is part of the department initiatives to focus on Liberation Heritage routes and sites of significance and how they can be enhanced for both domestic and international

Women Winemakers:  Black women winemakers are transforming the wine industry and making an impact internationally. Minister Kubayi–Ngubane will interact with these women and their wine products as part of ascertaining how the sector can support the wine tourism.
