Minister Kubayi, MEC Maile and MMC Mabaso to visit Soweto flood-affected areas
Minister of Human Settlements, Mmamoloko Kubayi together with the Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements and Infrastructure Development Lebogang Maile and City of Johannesburg MMC for Human Settlements Cllr Mlungisi Mabaso will visit flood-affected areas in Soweto. This follows recent heavy rains in Gauteng resulting in flash floods which have damaged road infrastructure, houses and living people displaced.
The areas which have been affected the most include Kliptown, Protea South, Nancefield hostel and Alexandra. Minister Kubayi and Provincial and Local leadership are expected to visit Kliptown and Protea South to assess the damage and to interact with community members. The site visits will be preceded by a detailed report from officials on what has been done to assist the affected households. This includes proposed solutions to permanently relocate affected households from the flood line to avoid these incidents from happening again.
