Minister Masutha to officially open Standerton Correctional Centre

Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Adv. Michael Masutha, will officially open the newly built Standerton Correctional Centre on Monday, 29 April 2019.

Constructed to accommodate 1 486 inmates, this centre is to bring much-needed relief to the challenges of overcrowding currently facing Correctional Services.

Standerton Correctional Centre is constructed in line with the new-generation correctional facilities model, meant to facilitate rehabilitation and differs fundamentally from older prisons order which were primarily designed to warehouse inmates.

This facility boasts more modern security fencing, kitchen, laundry, hospital section and workshop equipment, as well as, heating and ventilation systems as prescribed by the Nelson Mandela Rules for the Treatment of Inmates.
