Minister Michael Masutha launches Court-Annexed Mediation in Mahikeng, 16 Feb

The Minister of Justice and Correctional Services Advocate Michael Masutha, MP, will officially launch the Court-Annexed Mediation in Montshioa Stadt Village, Mahikeng on Monday, 16 February 2015.

The mediation service provides an alternative dispute resolution mechanism which allows for a negotiated settlement between involved parties and alleviates the huge litigation costs.

When there is a dispute between parties, a mediator will facilitate discussions between them, assist in identifying issues and explore areas of compromise at a cheaper and fixed tariff. Examples of disputes to be dealt with include contractual claims, motor vehicle collision and other damages claims, neighbourhood and family disputes.

The introduction of the mediation service in courts is part of the department’s commitment to transform the civil justice system and broaden access to justice services.

This official launch will be followed by Imbizo, where members of the community will interact with the Minister on justice related matters.
