Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Advocate Michael Masutha, will officially launch the 2014 Corrections Week, under the theme: “From Prisons to Corrections - A 20 year journey towards a humane correctional system for a safer South Africa,” at the Christian Revival Centre in Bloemfontein in the Free State on Sunday, 21 September 2014.
Announcing the 2014 Corrections Week, Acting National Commissioner of Correctional Services Zach Modise today (16 September 2014) said: “The Corrections Focus Week is about celebrating 20 years of freedom and taking Correctional Services delivery to crime wary South Africans to a higher path in line with the National Development Plan.”
Details of the launch event are as follows:
Date: Sunday, 21 September 2014
Venue: Christian Revival Centre, Bloemfontein, Free State
Time: 13h00
We wish to request media attending to please confirm attendance, by no later than 12h00 on Thursday (18 September), by sending their full names, ID or passport numbers, media house, mobile number and email address to Zodwa Mtsweni at Zodwa.Mtsweni@dcs.gov.za or 072 311 3500.
Corrections Week is a culmination, and celebration, of crucial partnerships and relations fostered during the year with various social partners in business, media, NGO, faith-based sector, labour and across various other spheres of society. In short, these partners are contributing towards making Corrections A Societal Responsibility indeed. The National Development Plan calls for heightened citizen participation and social cohesion and without these defining features of the society the fight against crime will not be won.
Join DCS in marking progress made in breaking the cycle of crime, and in re-dedicating ourselves to step up our collective efforts.
