Minister Nkoana-Mashabane to host an event marking International Women’s Day

On Friday, 14 March 2014, the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Honourable Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, will host an event in Pretoria marking International Women’s Day.

The event, to which the media are invited, will be held at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation. The event will take place under the theme: “Africa Rising: The Role of Women in Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development, Inspiring Change”.

It is expected that the event will be attended by 350 participants drawn from Civil Society Organisations as well as those from various organs of the state.

Minister Nkoana-Mashabane’s keynote address will focus on “The Role of Women in Negotiations, Mediation and Development”. The Minister will speak on, amongst other things, South Africa’s commitment to empower women across the continent on mediation and negotiation skill enhances the African Agenda and sustainable development.

The International Women Day also takes place when women from all corners of the world are gathered at the offices of UN Women in New York deliberating on progress made towards the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women.
