Minister Lindiwe Sisulu and union leaders launch the Public Service Charter

The Minister for Public Service and Administration, Lindiwe Sisulu, MP, and Labour will tomorrow launch the Public Service Charter.

The Public Service Charter is a commitment between the State as the Employer and Labour which seeks to among other things, professionalise and encourage excellence in the public service and improve service delivery.

The service charter introduces service standards in the public service with a call to public servants to meet and exceed them. “With this charter we are committing ourselves to higher level of delivery, new ways of servicing our people and making a call to our people to refuse bad service, they deserve the highest level of service” Sisulu said.

The Public Service Charter stems from a 2012/13 to 2014/15 wage agreement which included a resolution that Employer will “review the Remuneration Policy of the Public Service” while parties (Labour and Employer) will enter into a service charter for the public service.

The Minister will be joined by union leaders from SADTU, NEHAWU, PSA, POPCRU, SAPU, NAPTOSA, DENOSA and HOSPERSA. Business community, academics, youth formations, South African Council of Churches, SALGA representatives and various NGOs will also be attending the launch.
