Minister Fikile Mbalula visits Southern line to assess work done, 3 Mar

Following the decision of the Railway Safety Regulator to grant Western Cape Metrorail a certificate to run the new Electric Motor Units (EMUs) on the Southern Line at peak and off-peak times, Minister Mbalula will be visiting the Southern Line to assess work done to recover the line on Thursday, 03 March 2022.

The Minister will also interact with former liberation combatants and get a detailed briefing on how they have been incorporated at PRASA.

The Minister will be joined by the PRASA Board and PRASA management. The Cape Flats and the Southern Lines are the only two lines that have been running trial operations of the new EMUs in the Western Cape during off-peak.

The Minister will take a train ride from the Fish Hoek Station to Cape Town Station where the Minister will hold a media briefing.
