Minister Fikile Mbalula opens Madidi Bridge on road D637 between Phasha and Madidi villages, 13 Oct

Transport Department’s Labour Intensive Rural Roads Project brings hope for Madibeng residents during October Transport Month

The Minister of Transport Mr Fikile Mbalula is proud to announce the completion of construction work over the Madidi Bridge on road D637 between Phasha and Madidi villages in the Madibeng Local Municipality in North West.

Minister Mbalula will officially open the bridge on the 13th October 2020. He will be joined by the North West MEC for Public Works and Roads Mr Gaoage Oageng Molapisi and the Mayor of Madibeng Mr Jostina Mothibe.

The 50 meters long bridge was built over the Sand River, which is also known as the Toloane River. The Madidi Bridge serves as a link between the remote village of Phasha and the rest of the Madibeng Local Municipality, as well as other neighbouring areas of Gauteng.

The construction project resulted in the training and employment of local workers, comprising of youth and women over a period of sixteen (16) months. In addition, twenty five (25) local sub constructors were given an opportunity to carry out site works.

The bridge was built as a result the Department of Transport’s Labour Intensive Rural Roads Programme. The department is using the programme to improve the economic and social conditions of the rural communities through the construction and maintenance of rural road infrastructure.
