Minister Edna Molewa leads South Africa’s celebration of World Wildlife Day, 3 Mar

The Department of Environmental Affairs and South African National Parks (SANParks) cordially invite you to the second World Wildlife Day celebration to be held at Skukuza in the Kruger National Park, Mpumalanga, on 3 March 2015.

The Minister of Environmental Affairs, Mrs Edna Molewa, and the CE of SANParks, Mr Fundisile Mketeni, will lead the celebration.

The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 3 March, the day of the adoption of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), as World Wildlife Day to celebrate and raise awareness of the world’s wild fauna and flora.

The theme for World Wildlife Day 2015 is Wildlife Crime is serious: let’s get serious about wildlife crime” to highlight the positive role that local communities can play in helping to curb illegal wildlife trade. The theme is complemented by the sub themes: “Wildlife and sustainable tourism” and “The role of local communities in conservation”.

You are invited to accompany the Department to the Kruger National Park on 2 March 2015 in order to cover the event on 3 March 2015 for your publication/medium. The programme includes a field visit to a carcass of a rhino that was poached.

Accommodation will be provided at Skukuza, Kruger National Park, Mpumalanga, for media wanting stay over on 2 March 2014. Transport will be provided to media travelling from Gauteng.
