Minister Edna Molewa launches community parks and street cleaning projects in Estcourt, 31 Mar

The Minister of Environmental Affairs, Mrs. Edna Molewa, will on Tuesday 31 March 2015, launch the Rehabilitation of Community Parks and Street Cleaners for Umtshezi projects worth over R13.8 million at the Wembezi Stadium, Estcourt, KwaZulu-Natal.

The Department of Environmental Affairs, through its Environmental Protection and Infrastructure Programme (EPIP), funded these two projects which fall under Working on Waste, and Greening and Open Space Management focus area. These projects are aimed at the creation of job opportunities, small business development and skills development through labour intensive methods as per the requirements of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).

It is anticipated that the implementation of these projects will create at least 235 work opportunities. This entails amongst others employing 160 women, 160 youth and people living with disability which will result in 11 669 person days.

The Minister will be accompanied by the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Mr Michael Mabuyakhulu, and the leadership of Umtshezi Local Municipality.
