Minister Dlamini to host service delivery improvement Imbizo in Engcobo

As part of Project Mikondzo, a service delivery improvement initiative driven by the Department of Social Development and its public entities, Minister Bathabile Dlamini will on Saturday, 23 November 2013 host an Imbizo with communities in Engcobo Local Municipality which is situated in Chris Hani District- Province of the Eastern Cape.

According to the 2011 Census report, the area is made up of a youthful population, as well as the highest rates of poverty and unemployment in the Chris Hani District Municipality, coupled with a high dependency ratio. Given the foregoing, the main aim of the Minister’s visit is to look at identifying programmes to support and sustain the livelihoods of poor rural communities.

During this visit, the Minister will pay attention to specific issues that affect children, women, people with disabilities and older persons. These include amongst others, child protection, Early Childhood Development (ECD), abuse of older persons and illegal social grant deductions.
