Minister of Defence and Military Veterans meets with UN Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region

Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula will meet with the new UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for the Great Lakes region of Africa, Mr Said Dijinnit.

As Special Envoy for the Great Lakes, Mr Dijinnit is tasked with bringing global awareness to challenges faced by the region, particularly the persistent instability and insecurity in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Consequently, a comparatively large fraction of the meeting will be set aside for discussions on recent developments in the DRC and South Africa's role as part of the UN Force Intervention Brigade (FIB) in the eastern part of the DRC.

In this regard, the Ministry of Defence and Military Veterans would like to invite members of the media to a photo opportunity and brief remarks.
