Minister Nzimande to visit Coastal TVET College following the brutal murder of Smanga Zulu and Lindinkosi Mazibuko

The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Dr Blade Nzimande, will be visiting the Coastal TVET College in Durban, KwaZulu Natal, tomorrow, 12th November 2020, following the murder of Smanga Zulu and Lindinkosi Mazibuko weeks ago.

On these separate incidences, Smanga together with the other two students from Coastal TVET College, uMbumbulu Campus were shot at by an unknown assailant. 

They were rushed to KwaMakhutha Clinic, and Smanga Zulu died at the clinic. The other two students are currently recuperating well in hospital.

In this case, five suspects, were arrest by the South African Police Services (SAPS) and they all appeared at Mbumbulu Magistrate Court. The case was postponed for today, 11th November 2020.

In the Lindinkosi Mazibuko case, who was the Head of Infrastructure at the same TVET College, his assailants are still at large.  Minister has called on the SAPS to act swiftly and arrest his assailants. Minister Nzimande has also called-upon members of the community who might be having any information that might lead to the arrest of these criminals to contact the KwaMakhutha SAPS.

During the visit to the college, the Minister will be joined by amongst others, the KZN DHET Regional Manager, KZN Provincial Commissioner of SAPS, Council of Coastal TVET College, Senior Management of Coastal TVET College, and SRC of Coastal TVET College.

The Minister will have three separate sectoral meeting with the College stakeholders during this visit to the college. Meetings will be held with the College Council, the College Management and Middle management, and with Unions and the Student Representative Council (SRC). 

Following these consultations, the Minister will address members of the media on the outcome of these meetings.
