North West: The Minister of Transport, Dr. Blade Nzimande will officially launch the Job MaximisationThrough Labour Intensive Methods flagship programme, called – “Operation Ntsha Tlala, on Saturday, 13th April 2019, at Ikageng Stadium, Potchefstroom, in North West
The initiative showcases government’s continued commitment to provide on-going sustainable work opportunities for destitute households in the effort to significantly create jobs, reduce poverty, and grow and transform the economy using labour intensive methods of road construction and maintenance.
The Department of Public Works and Roads in the North West is currently implementing the Itirele Maintenance Programme adapted from the successes of the Zibambele Household Contractor initiative to address provincial Expanded Public Works Programme opportunity constraints and challenges.
Government adopted an Infrastructure Development Plan that is intended to transform the economic landscape by creating a significant number of new jobs with special focus on youth, women and SMME development, as well as strengthening the delivery of basic services to support integration of the South Africa`s economy.
The Transport sector is amongst the sectors that contributes immensely towards creating jobs in line with the National Development Plan (NDP), particularly in the construction and maintenance of rural access roads.
Over 1200 Expanded Public Works Programme beneficiaries from an audience of more than 5000 community members and stakeholders will form part of the official launch of the Job Maximisation project.
Minister Nzimande will be joined during the official launch of Operation Ntsha Tlala by the Minister of Public Works, Mr. Thulas Nxesi, Premier of the North-West province, Prof Tebogo, Job Mokgoro, North West MEC for Public Works and Roads, Executive Mayor of the Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality, the Mayor of the J.B. Marks Local Municipality, Coucillors, the traditional leadership, senior national and provincial government officials, members of the community and the media.
