Minister Bathabile Dlamini strengthens bilateral relations with State of Maryland, 5 Feb

A delegation from the State of Maryland (USA) is in the country to start implementing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Department of Social Development and the State of Maryland.

The visit by representatives of the State of Maryland is informed by the MoU signed by the department and the State of Maryland in May last year; thus giving effect to bilateral cooperation on matters of mutual interest.

The Department of Social Development intends to explore training programmes; specialist programmes for the social work practice. Minister Dlamini has identified bilateral cooperation priorities including Early Childhood Development, Alcohol and substance abuse and the social work programme as a profession.

The MoU also aims to share best practices in an attempt to improve the delivery of social development services to communities in South Africa and in the State of Maryland. The delegation is expected to visit different social development projects in Gauteng and Mpumalanga Provinces respectively.
