Minister Bathabile Dlamini addresses anniversary of Diocesan Pretoria Mothers’ Union, 24 Oct

Minister of Social Development Bathabile Dlamini will on Saturday 24 October, 2015 join about 800 women for a prayer service and fellowship as part of the Mothers Union 110th Celebrations at St Mary’s Diocesan School for Girls in Hatfield, Pretoria.

Under the theme: “Mothers united in prayer to be the light of the world”, the gathering will also reflect on the role of women as the ‘mothers of the nation’ in advancing the gains of freedom and democracy in South Africa.

Minister Dlamini will address the congregation on various issues of national interest including the country’s social security programme and dealing with human trafficking.

The gathering will also share ideas on how best to tackle contemporary challenges in society, and how to support on-going government efforts to deal with the triple challenge of poverty, unemployment and inequality.  Issues of youth development will also be discussed.

President of the Mothers Union, Pretoria Diocese Mrs B Pitso said: “We are honoured to host the Honourable Minister and to gain insights from her on the increasingly important role of women in Society. This will be a day of reflection of the valuable contribution of women in the struggle against apartheid and social injustices. We will also have the opportunity to share ideas and network on areas of cooperation and how we can strengthen unity among women for the advancement of society.

It is only through unity and hard work that as women we will be able to realise the goal of turning the gains of freedom into tangible economic benefits for all the people in the country.

The Honourable Minister’s leadership record and experience speaks for itself and we look forward to learning from her.”
