Minister Creecy leads mop-up operations in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal

The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Barbara Creecy together with KwaZulu-Natal MEC of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Ravi Pillay will lead mop up operations at Blue Lagoon Beach, in Durban on Friday, 29 April 2022.

The mop up operations come after devastating floods that swept the province recently. The Minister believes that it’s important that we we focus our attention on cleaning up the environment and understanding how environmental degradation contributes to worsening the effects of climate change. Our communities need to be maintained in order to ensure there are no negative health implications on affected residents, promote socio-economic activity in the area but also prioritise conservation in all areas.

The joint outreach and awareness is a partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government and eThekwini Municipality aiming to provide another platform for the government to execute its Constitutional mandate of ensuring everyone’s right to an environment which is not harmful to their health or well-being. Also, to have the environment protected for the benefit of present and future generations.
