Minister Angie Motshekga receives Torch of Peace from Minister Dipuo Peters, 22 Jan

The Minister of Basic Education Mrs Angie Motshekga will on Thursday 22 January 2015 officially receive the Torch of Peace from Minister of Transport, Ms Dipuo Peters in Nyanga, Cape Town.

The Torch of Peace has become a symbol of our country’s national campaign to combat violence against women and children. The emphasis and importance of partnership between the departments of Basic Education and Transport stems from the perspective of road safety as well as the back to school campaign of the DBE.

Both Departments seek to elevate and increase road safety awareness at schools especially primary school pupils as these are the most vulnerable road users. The partnership also seeks to foster joint-venture awareness campaigns that will be ongoing and sustainable throughout the school calendar to entrench the messages of road safety to schools.

Both Ministers of Transport and Basic Education will be joined during the ceremony by Western Cape MEC of Transport and Public Works Mr Donald Grant as well as school children from the surrounding areas.

Members of the media are invited to attend the ceremony as follows:
