Media statement on the commencement of the community public hearings by the Ministerial Enquiry on Nomzamo (Lwandle) evictions

The Ministerial Enquiry appointed by Lindiwe Sisulu, Minister of Human Settlements, to investigate the evictions at Nomzamo (Lwandle) Cape Town will commence with the third round of its public hearings at Nomzamo (Lwandle).

Having completed the first and second rounds of oral public hearings, the Enquiry will hear oral presentations from the members of the Community of Nomzamo (Lwandle) who were directly affected by the evictions that took place on the 2nd and 3rd June 2014.

To this end, the process for statement taking from the members of the community together with any relevant documentation and records commenced on Wednesday 23rd July 2014 and those who have been considered and approved by the Enquiry are being notified and invited to make oral presentations at the hearings.

The last category of hearings (Category D) will concentrate on other parties including NGOs, CBOs, etc. The venue and time for this round of hearings will be communicated in due course.

In the interest of transparency and meaningful public participation the Enquiry will conduct its hearings in public and anyone interested can attend. However, this will apply on the basis of first come first serve due to space limitations.
