Background

Through these annual ministerial awards, the National Department of Public Works (NDPW) in its role as the lead and coordinator of the Programme, encourages, motivates, recognises and rewards the best performing government departments, municipalities, provinces and public bodies  for their significant contribution in creating work opportunities for the unemployed.

The 2012/13 Kamoso Awards Ceremony is of a particular significance as they are aimed to mobilise implementers of the Programme to increase their efforts in making the socio-economic impact among communities and individual  EPWP beneficiaries. The Programme will also showcase its progress, impact and successes as a government flagship programme aimed at alleviating poverty and unemployment through the creation of labour intensive work opportunities and communicate the way-forward beyond 2014.

Since the implementation of EPWP Phase 2 in 2009, the Programme has created over 3 million work opportunities towards achieving the cabinet mandated target of 4.5 million work opportunities by March 2014.
