Media Accreditation: Parliament hosts the 59th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference 2013

Parliament of RSA will from 28 August to 6 September host the annual conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) under the theme: Effective solutions to commonwealth developmental challenges. This will be the first time the CPA international conference is hosted in South Africa.

The CPA is the Association of the Commonwealth Parliamentarians whose mission is to promote the advancement of parliamentary democracy by enhancing knowledge and understanding of democratic governance.

The CPA seeks to build an informed Parliamentary community able to deepen the Commonwealth’s democratic commitment and to further cooperation amongst Parliaments and Legislatures.

The CPA Branches which are grouped geographically into nine Commonwealth Regions, Africa, Asia, Australia, British Ireland and Mediterranean, Canada,  Caribbean, Americas and Atlantic, India, and South Asia will meet at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg for the 59th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference.

The opening ceremony will take place on 2 September, with preceding days 28  August to 1 September set aside for CPA related meetings and small Branches conference. Media is invited to cover the conference from 30  August to 6 September, a full programme will be communicated at a media launch to be confirmed in due course.
