MEC Vadi to officially open Gauteng Transport Commission offices

The Gauteng Transport Commission gives institutional expression to the idea of Gauteng as a City Region comprised of the province and the municipalities, which is a contiguous transport area which seamlessly flows from one city to another like from the City of Johannesburg to Tshwane and Ekurhuleni.

Therefore, a single entity dealing with all major transport decisions that needs cohesive collaboration, coordination, integration and common decision making would best serve the transport needs of Gauteng residents. The GTC would give the ideal expression of Integrated Government Relations, and viewing Gauteng as a City Region where collective decision making would underpin the needed economic growth and infrastructure development that the province need to develop.

Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Dr Ismail Vadi will on Friday, 26 September 2014, officially open the Gauteng Transport Commission (GTC) offices in Bedfordview.

The Gauteng Transport Commission is an inter-governmental structure aimed at improving transport service delivery and providing a reliable, affordable, safe, accessible and sustainable transport system in a globally-competitive city region.

The principal aims of the commission are to facilitate the implementation of the 5-Year Gauteng Transport Implementation Plan (GTIP5) and the 25-Year Integrated Transport Master Plan (ITMP25).

It will be overseen by a Governing Body consisting of MEC for Roads and Transport and the Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Transport in each participating municipality, supported by an Advisory Panel of transport specialists.
