MEC Sibongiseni Dhlomo bids farewell to medical students going to Cuba, 13 Nov

You are cordially invited to join KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC Sibongiseni Dhlomo on Thursday (13 November 2014) at King Shaka International Airport as he bids farewell to 96 students who will be going to Cuba to study medicine.

Most of these students come from poor families in the rural parts of the KwaZulu-Natal. Their departure now brings the total number of medical trainees in Cuba to 798, which bears testimony to Government’s strong resolve to alleviate the shortage of doctors in the country.

By 2019, all these medical students would have returned to the country to begin ploughing back their much-needed medical skills in their own communities, including in outlying, rural areas.

On the day of their departure for Cuba, the MEC is expected to once again remind the students to focus on their studies and make their parents, communities and country proud.

The students and their families will be available for interviews and there will be photo opportunities.
