MEC Ravi Pillay donates sewing machines to women-led co-operative in Ezinqoleni, 29 Oct

The MEC for Finance in KwaZulu-Natal, Mr Ravi Pillay, will on Tuesday, 29 October 2019, donate industrial sewing machines to Ubuhlebengqondo Sewing Co-operative in Ezinqoleni outside Port Shepstone.

The three-year old co-operative is a success story as it is able to generate employment for local women through a poultry farming project and a sewing project. The sewing project has even attracted orders from schools in the Eastern Cape.

The Provincial Treasury has also partnered with the Apparel and Textile Association of South Africa which will donate fabrics and provide training and mentorship to members of the Co-operative.

After visiting the Co-operative, MEC Pillay will then address a community event in a bid to encourage members of the public to start own businesses and Co-operatives in order to alleviate poverty and generate job opportunities.

Details of the community event are as follows:
Date: Tuesday, 29 October 2019
Venue: Izinqoleni Farmers’ Hall
Time: 10h00
