Coronavirus Update: Job creation and focus on the tourism and hospitality industry
Media invited to join the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Nomusa Dube-Ncube during her visit to the R1, 3 billion Umhlanga Arch Hotel
On the 15th September, I appeared before the National Council of Provinces. During this sitting I reiterated our commitment towards the implementation of the KZN Economic Reconstruction and Transformation Plan.
I reflected on our enduring partnership with the stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality sectors. I singled out these sectors as critical in ensuring job creation as we battle the negative impact of COVID-19
Critically, I congratulate the developers of Umhlanga Arch for showing a vote of confidence in KZN. This is a new trendy R1.3 billion development near the Gateway super-regional mall in KwaZulu-Natal.
Tomorrow, I am scheduled to interact with the developers of Umhlanga Arch and will receive a detailed presentation on key aspect of this hotel such as job creation, stimulation of the travel and tourism industry. Will also be briefed about the official handing over of 203-room hotel to Hilton Hotel Group, who will manage the property.
The highlight of the visit tomorrow will be the official opening of restaurants in the food court.
Our entities, KZN Tourism Authority and Trade Investment KZN have ensured that we collaborate with investors, key stakeholders such as the trade, major tour operators, airlines and hotels to promote packaged deals to encourage travel into the province.
We appreciate the fact that stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality are adhering to the COVID-19 health regulations such as:
- Online check-ins to ensure social distancing;
- Wearing of masks;
