MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube holds meeting with uThukela District mayors and district house of traditional leaders, 7 Mar

KZN EDTEA Nomusa to visit Ladysmith in Uthukela amid service delivery challenges which led to business shutdown

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Nomusa Dube-Ncube will, on Saturday, 7 March 2020, hold an urgent meeting with uThukela District mayors and the uThukela district house of traditional leaders.

The meeting comes in the wake of a surfeit of service delivery issues that threatened to derail the midland’s town economic activities.

In what has been colloquially termed the #SiegeOfLadysmith2020 in the media saw the town descend into chaos, plunged into turmoil and totally shut down impacting adversely on business.

“We have been very very concerned with the situation in Ladysmith especially in the age of scarce jobs where we saw thriving businesses closing its doors. Just in October we were in uThukela discussing with the local chamber the solutions to bring back business, retain the existing and attracting new businesses in town. On Saturday I will meet various stakeholders to iron out the issues,” said Dube-Ncube.

Dube-Ncube has also been charged by the Premier, Sihle Zikalala to resolve a plethora of service delivery challenges especially water shortages in Okhahlamba, in Bergville.

As part of her day-long activities in Dube-Ncube will also participate in the commemoration of the World Consumer Rights Day to raise awareness about consumer right.

The day is officially commemorated on March 15 every years around the world.

“During the commemoration of the World Consumer rights Month, we would like to engage consumers on the need for sustainable consumption globally and as well as highlighting the important role that consumer rights and protection can play in our KwaZulu-Natal province,” she said.

“It is very important for our consumers to be informed of their rights as customers so that they do not get deprived. I urge all consumers to make the right choices when consuming food from the suppliers and also they must be very careful of their finances” said Dube-Ncube.

Later on the day, the MEC will embark on uThukela Climate Change Roadshow in Emhlumayo.

“We are living in difficult times and we have to come up with strategic ways to fight the disasters that we are faced with. This is our second roadshow since we held our first in Mayville last month,” said Nomusa Dube-Ncube.
