MEC Mlibo Qoboshiyane to hand-over Thabata Senior Primary School as part of the infrastructure rollout programme

The MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Mr Mlibo Qoboshiyane will open the newly built Thabata Senior Primary School in Lusikisiki in the OR Tambo District Municipality, Eastern Cape. The school forms part of the programme known as “One School per Week”.

The programme was launched by the Minister of Basic Education Mrs Angie Motshekga in July and has since seen other Ministers, Deputy Ministers and Members of the Eastern Cape EXCO handing over a number newly built schools in the Eastern Cape province to replace mud and other inappropriately built structures. 

The school is built under the Accelerated Schools Infrastructure Development Initiative (ASIDI) which falls under the Presidential Infrastructure Coordinating Council (PICC). The initiative aims to eradicate all mud schools and inappropriate structures, as well refurbish dilapidated and ill equipped schools. 

The ASIDI National Outputs plan of 2011-2014 will see an eradication and replacement of 496 mud schools, provision of water and sanitation to 1 257 schools and electricity to 878 schools.
