MEC Mbombo to spend 67 minutes at a MOD centre in Khayelitsha

Tomorrow, 18 July 2014, Western Cape MEC of Cultural Affairs Sport, Dr Nomafrench Mbombo, will be spending 67 minutes giving back to the community by doing some work at a Mass participation; Opportunity and access; Development and growth (MOD) centre in Khayelitsha.

The MOD programme is one of the flagship initiatives of the Western Cape Government. There are currently more than 181 MOD Centres across the province that provide sport and recreational activities to over 40 000 registered participants from disadvantaged communities and underserved schools. A holiday programme is run during school holidays to encourage youth to engage in healthy, safe activities during this time.

MEC Mbombo will be at the MOD centre at Isikhokelo Primary school in Khayelitsha, where she and her staff will be cleaning and helping to serve food to the children. She will be using this opportunity to get some “hands-on” experience of how a MOD centre is run.

All media are invited to attend. Interview and photo opportunities will be available.
