The MEC of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism John Block is expected to table his midterm budget adjustment on the 14th of November 2014 Friday next week, at the Northern Cape legislature chamber.

Date: 14 November 2014
Vanue: Northern Cape Legislature
Time:10h00

MEC Block who has recently received praise from the Auditor General following his remarkable achievements of clean audits for both departments under his leadership, invites members of the media to attend the much anticipated event.

Block whose budget votes have since been dubbed by the media as “Pro Poor” is expected to table a budget adjustment that seeks to provide solutions.

Since his advent at the provincial treasury Block together with his high powered team of financial administrators has rescued the department from a negative bank balance to positive one.

Earlier this year Block said during his provincial budget speech, Block said the budget is about people, not numbers.

“It is an opportunity for us to reflect on the goals and aspirations of our people. Our struggle was never only about political democracy. It was and is about equity, access to resources, decent jobs, decent housing, schools and the decent education of our children. It is about wiping away the poverty and hunger, eliminating the hopelessness and despair of being jobless. It is indeed, about our safety and the well-being of our society”.

Block added that the budget that he tabled earlier this year once again recognised that making the right choices is not just about delivering a better quality of life to our people for a year or two.  ‘It is about ensuring that the policy choices we make today are affordable and sustainable for at least five or fifteen years from now, which means prioritising. It demands a constant and honest evaluation of what we are doing and how we do it. It means that we have to strive to do things better and smarter. Government resources are finite which clearly indicates that we have only so many resources that can be used at a given time to produce goods and services.

"We can only plan to spend within the available resources. Therefore we have to manage our resources prudently, focusing on the needs to ensure value for money” added Block.
