Gauteng to kick-off Phase 2 Green Logistics Indicators project

Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Dr Ismail Vadi will on Thursday, 29 November 2017 launch Phase 2 of the Green Logistics Indicators (GLI:X) project at Palm Continental Hotel, Mayfair- Johannesburg.

The launch follows the signing of a Joint Declaration of Intent by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety and Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport last year.

The Federal Government chose South Africa, and Gauteng in particular, as the first country and region on the continent to develop and implement the GLI:X project, which stresses the importance of environmentally-friendly solutions and sustainable development, particularly in the field of freight logistics.

Phase 2 will focus on two aspects: the implementation of the indicator system and pilot projects in various municipalities in Gauteng to test the impact matrix and indicators set on the ground.
