MEC Faith Mazibuko engages with social workers at Social Work Indaba, 25 Feb

The Minister of Social Development plans to engage Social Work Practitioners through the National Social Work Indaba and as a results the Gauteng Department of Social Development will hosts the Provincial Indaba with the aim of engaging issues affecting the Social Work practice.

This follows a growing concern that Social Workers are heavily overloaded and there are trends of lack of professional conduct, poor working conditions which compromises ethical provisions.

The Gauteng Department of Social Development has its core mandate for the provision of care and protection services to all vulnerable groups, and to ensure through this service that people enjoy reasonable quality of life.

Currently the Gauteng Department of Social Development has employed 884 Social Workers, 142 Social Work supervisors and 483 Social Auxiliary Workers.
