MEC Dhlomo to showcase prepardness of Umgungundlovu district as one of the NHI sites in KZN

"KwaZulu-Natal is on track in its three pilot sites selected for the implementation of the National Health Insurance [NHI]”.  These were the words of KZN Health MEC, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo when he was giving a media update on the 13th of  August  2013, on the state of preparedness in the three NHI Pilot sites  that is Umgungundlovu, Umzinyathi and Amajuba.

On the 16th of August 2013, MEC Dhlomo will be in the area of KwaMahleka (in Ward 5) in Umkhambathini, whereby he will be presenting a Health Care Facility that has been provided as part of ensuring access to health for all as guaranteed by the National Health Insurance for 63 141 strong members of the Umkhambathini community.

This rural community of KwaMahleka that is targeted here is situated 60 km away from the city of Pietermaritzburg. MEC Dhlomo will also be showcasing three [3] mobile schools vehicles that have been purchased, i.e. dental vehicle, eye care vehicle as well as a general health vehicle.

These will be utilised for screening that involves oral, vision hearing, nutrition status, impairments fine and gross motor development; communicable diseases as well as psycho- social issues. He will also be introducing School Health Teams that will be screening the pupils and also the 13 Community Care Givers that service chronic ill patients in their homes.
