MEC Desbo Mohono hands over food security projects to indigent families in Biesiesvlei near Lichtenburg, 18 to 19 Aug

Department takes food security programme to Ditsobotla Local Municipality

Mahikeng-MEC Desbo Mohono of North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will tomorrow, Tuesday, 18 August 2020 hand over food security projects to indigent families in Biesiesvlei near Lichtenburg.

The same programme will continue on Wednesday, 19 August 2020 in Coligny where identified and deserving families will be receiving agricultural inputs to alleviate poverty.

The projects are part of departmental food security programme geared at reducing poverty, enhancing agricultural productivity, creating job opportunities, enhancing household income and advancement of rural communities.

Working together with the Provincial Department of Social Development, the department identified deserving families consisting of unemployed youth, women, and the vulnerable from the Ditsobotla Local Municipality to receive agricultural inputs and indigenous chickens so they can engage in agricultural activities.

Through the food security programme, the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development realises its constitutional mandate concerning the right to food and the freedom charter clause which advocates for food to be plentiful for all.
