School vandalism continues to be a serious problem
While the WCED has increased security measures wherever possible, schools are still being burgled and vandalised on a regular basis.
The nationwide scourge on our schools has massive financial and social implications for our schools and particularly our learners. This has to stop.
Tomorrow, Western Cape MEC for Education Debbie Schäfer will reveal the number of burglary and vandalism incidents in Western Cape schools over the last financial year and the cost implications for the Department. She will also reveal the effects school vandalism can have on our schools, learners, educators and officials.
The MEC will be making a special plea to communities to help assist our schools in preventing or reporting incidents of school vandalism. The Minister will also outline how communities can play an active role in protecting their communities assets.
