MEC Capa to honour the excelling farmers

Rural Development and Agrarian Reform MEC Zoleka Capa cordially invites members of the media as she will bestow awards to the Chris Hani District farmers during a ceremony to celebrate achievements of the last five years (2009 to 2013).

Among those that will receive awards is former political activist Clarence Makwetu who will receive a lifetime award for his immerse contribution in agriculture development.

His encouragement and involvement saw his son being the youngest registered Bonsmara Breeder in the Province after winning numerous national youth awards in beef production.

The highlight of the day will see Mr Zengetwa, who won this year’s Best Bonsmara Breeder in the country in awards organised by the Agriculture Research Council (ARC), an organisation credited for its agriculture know-how.

This passionate farmer, who started breeding in 1995 after acquiring the Grootfontein farm in 1988, is also supported by the department through its massive ploughing programme where he plants more than 10 hectors of maize.

Other achievers in the District include the Province’s 2010 Finest Wool Producer who specialises with Merino sheep as well veteran woman farmer Ms Witbooi who has helped to organise women all-over South Africa to value their contribution and involvement in agriculture.

Members of the media are invited to attend this event.
