MEC Alan Winde inspects collapsed canal in Clanwilliam, 30 Jan

Alan Winde, MEC of Economic Opportunities, will tomorrow (30 January 2015) conduct a site visit to inspect the collapsed canal in Clanwilliam.

MEC Winde will meet with the Lower Olifants River Water Users Association to discuss the situation. The dam is owned by the national Department of Water and Sanitation.

The provincial Department of Agriculture has spent R975 000 on a generator and water pumps to stabilise the water supply to farms and residents in the area.

The 184m section of the canal near Klawer collapsed at the start of this month. The break dramatically reduced water supply to farms downstream. More than 300 farmers, 6 000 hectares of irrigation and residents in nearby communities were affected.

Date: 30 January 2015
Time: 13h00
Venue: Engen Garage at the Klawer turn-off on the N7 (MEC Winde will travel to the canal from this meeting point)
