A new opportunity was created in June 2012 for drama practitioners from Thabo Mofutsanyana district to present four drama productions for the season on one of the stages at PACOFS. This opportunity was created through the newly established Thabo Mofutsanyana Arts and Culture Centre. The drama productions will be showcased at PACOFS, Bloemfontein from 29 to 31 August 2013.
The four drama productions are:
1) Mphutlane by One Mabatha Theatre Production;
2) Knight of the Poet by Ithuteng Theatre Production;
3) Number 5 by Ithuteng Theatre Production and
4) His Story – Streetwise2 by Brown Coin productions.
Two of these drama productions participated in the Market Theatre Community Drama Festival that featured performances from the nine provinces. The Market Theatre Community Drama Festival also serves as the platform where the selections for the National Zwakala Drama Festival are made.
Some of the actors in the four plays were also casted in “The story of two mountains” that was showcased at National Arts Festival in Grahamstown in 2013.
The story line of the productions also reflects on life around the artists and speaks about social issues from drug abuse, genocide, to a mysterious disappearance. Some of the productions have an underlying educational message.
