Limpopo Premier Stanley Mathabatha to address Traditional Leadership Indaba

The Premier of Limpopo, Mr Stanley Mathabatha and MEC for Department of Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Mr Ishmael Kgetjepe will address senior traditional leaders, headmen and headwomen at the Traditional Leadership Indaba.

The Indaba will be held under the theme “together working towards improving the lives of our communities” focusing on issues affecting traditional leadership. 

Traditional leaders are important stakeholders in the development of traditional communities. The Indaba will amongst others deliberate on issues of land and development, role of traditional leaders in local government and initiation schools.  

Government remains committed to strengthen institution of traditional leadership. Traditional leaders are key in advising government in the development of policies and legislations that have impact on rural communities. 

The Indaba will also be dealing with challenges associated with the functionality of traditional councils. In line with government’s renewed focus and mandate on rural development, there will be special attention paid to matters of communal land rights in traditional areas, which are considered crucial in facilitating rural development and integrated development in our municipalities.
