Limpopo Government celebrates International Day for Persons with Disabilities, 3 Dec

Limpopo Provincial Government will host the provincial celebration of International Day for Persons with Disabilities in Vhembe District. Limpopo Premier Chupu Stanley Mathabatha will officiate the International Day for Persons with Disabilities themed: “Break barriers, open doors to realise an inclusive society for all”.

The International Day for persons living with disability provides an opportunity to create public awareness about disability issues, to embrace and celebrate the achievements and contribution made by people living with disability.

The South African Constitution also embraces people living with disability. The country’s Constitution upholds their right, and prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability. The rationale behind this conception is to remove perceptual barriers and create an embracing and accessible society for all.

The objectives of the disability awareness month are:

  • Report back to communities on progress made in the implementation of policies, programmes and legislation that seek to improve the quality of life of persons with disabilities;
  • Engage on public platforms to explore and showcase innovative ways and means by which barriers to the inclusion of persons with disabilities and their families can be broken down.
