Liberation struggle stalwart to receive official provincial funeral

The Gauteng Provincial Government will give the late liberation struggle stalwart, Reginald September, an official provincial funeral when he is laid to rest on Saturday, 30 November 2013.

September, who passed away last weekend at the age of 90, played a significant role in transforming South Africa through a number of positions - including being a trade unionist, Member of Parliament, Executive Committee Member of the ANC and SACP and leading the South African Coloured People's Organisation.

After almost 30 years in exile, September finally returned to South Africa in 1991 as a member of the ANC team that negotiated the future of the country with the South African Government.

He was elected as Member of Parliament in the first democratic Parliament in 1994 and served until 2004 when he retired.

September dedicated his whole life to the struggle against exploitation and oppression. His loyal and humble service to the cause of liberation of South Africa and his wise counsel during negotiations marks him as one of the architects of the new South Africa.

The President of the Republic of South Africa instructed that National Flag fly at half-mast in the Gauteng province on the day of the funeral.

Details of the funeral service are as follows:
Date: Saturday, 30 November 2013
Time: 09h00
