Launch of the State of the City Finances Report

The Chairperson of the South African Cities Network (SACN), Clr. Mpho Parks Tau invites members of the media to the launch of the State of City Finances Report 2013.

The SACN has been monitoring the financial status of the nine metropolitan municipalities, namely Buffalo City, Cape Town, Ekurhuleni, eThekwini, Johannesburg, Mangaung, Msunduzi, Nelson Mandela Bay and Tshwane.

The theme of this year’s State of City Finances Report 2013 is “Towards sustainable municipal finances”. It is important that the city financial story is told from a developmental perspective, one that acknowledges not only municipal duties and obligations in terms of compliance to norms and standards regarding finances, but also one that is acutely aware of the social, environmental and economic context within which this is happening.

This publication thus not only assesses city financial performance, based on key financial and audit indicators but importantly, asks important developmental questions around city finances, pointing at a number of storylines unfolding and equally important to city financial sustainability.

Details of the launch are as follows:
Date: Wednesday, 7 August 2013
Time: 10h30
Venue: Imbizo Media Centre, 120 Plein Street, Cape Town
