Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant attends KZN Economic Summit, 24 Oct

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government is to host an Economic Summit 2014 in which it is expected the Department of Labour and the provinces’ Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) department are to sign the formalisation of a collaboration agreement in the empowerment of youth and women.

Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant is to deliver a keynote address at the KZN Economic Summit 2014 that will be held tomorrow (October 24) at the Elangeni Maharani Hotel. The Summit will start at 08:00-14:00.

The theme of the KZN Economic Summit is: “Inclusive Economic Growth and Job Creation Through Strategic Intervention”.

Also expected to share the platform with Oliphant are: KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Senzo Mchunu; Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs MEC Mike Mabuyakhulu; Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs head of department: Desmond Golding; KZN Planning Commission director F Brookes; EDTEA Deputy Director-General: Industry Development and Business Regulations Z Nhleko.

Also expected to address the Summit will be Nedlac social Partners representatives, B Ntshalintshali (Labour) and D Mthalane ( Civil Society).

The partnership agreement the Department of Labor seeks to sign with the EDTEA department is intended to establish strategic partnership with private sector, academic institutions, development finance institutions, SETA’s and public entities to make meaningful contribution to job creation and to up-skilling of women and youth. - ENDS
