KwaZulu-Natal hosts Crime Summit at Durban Olive Convention Centre, 3 to 4 Jun

The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal Sihle Zikalala will use the upcoming KwaZulu-Natal Crime Summit taking place on 03 June-04 June 2022, to lead the renewed charge against all types of crime in the province, and to galvanise every stakeholder to declare war on criminals.

The Provincial Government, through the Department of Community Safety and Community Liaison led by MEC Neliswa Peggy Nkonyeni, will host the Crime Summit which comes ahead of the announcement by the Minister of Police General Bheki Cele of the latest crime statistics which will give the most recent update on criminality nationally that occurred during the fourth quarter of the 2021/2022 financial year (January-March 2022).

Premier Zikalala has acknowledged the extent of crime in KwaZulu-Natal especially Gender-Based Violence, rape and murder that is linked to taxi conflicts, intraparty disagreements and the deadly attacks on traditional leaders.

The Crime Summit represents the most coordinated effort by the Provincial Government to take the war to the criminals by closing every square inch of their space. Gathered at the Crime Summit will be all the stakeholders across the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster and all the other brains trust in the fight against crime.

The Summit is driven by the shared intent to alter the image of the province from being a crime capital of the country in certain categories of crime, to being a haven for families to live in a secure and peaceful place and for business to invest.

Innovative crime prevention tactics especially the use of technology, community and police forums, the resources of the justice, crime prevention and security cluster, increase collaboration with the private security industry and enhance the deployment of intelligence capacity against key crimes will be explored in detail. So will be analysis of the changing modus operandi of criminals and emerging crime trends in society.

The KZN Government has taken a clear position to create an environment where families and individuals in the province must no longer live in fear.

Peace and stability are necessary conditions for families to live, work and play but also for business to invest and thrive while driving the economic prosperity of all the residents of KwaZulu-Natal.
