Jacob Zuma Foundation hosts sixth annual Chess Tournament, 19 Dec

The Jacob G Zuma Foundation (JGZF) is delighted to host the sixth annual chess tournament for scholars, which has since its inception in 2009 grown in popularity and reached out to scores of schoolchildren.

“As a result of President Zuma’s chess initiative, the game of chess in South Africa has seen an enormous growth to become arguably the fastest growing sport in the country,” the JGZF said in a statement.

The details of the tournament are as follows:

Date:  Friday 19 December 2014
Time: players’ registration - 07h00
Venue: Nkandla Stadium (next to Nkandla Municipality Offices in town)

Winners will have the honour of receiving their prizes from H.E President Jacob Zuma who will also partake in the tournament to show his skills on the chessboard.

The tournament is split into two sections – JZ JUNIOR TEAMS CHAMPIONSHIP and JZ OPEN. The teams’ section will feature all 11 districts from KwaZulu Natal. These teams have gone through qualifiers and the teams are made up of 10 pupils of both sexes. The ‘Open Section’ is open to everyone. Entry is free.
