Invitation to launch of KwaZulu-Natal report into Gender Transformation in the workplace

On 17 to 18 November 2011,  the Commission for Gender (CGE) convened a two (2) day public hearing on Gender Transformation in the  workplace. The hearings were convened by calling Heads of Departments (HoD’s) from the public sector and Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) from the private sector, for them to account for the slow pace of gender transformation in the workplace, and inadequate promotion of women with disabilities, gender equality and women empowerment.

The purpose of convening the provincial hearings in  2011 was to ascertain compliance with the Employment Equity Act No 55 of 1998 (' the Employment Equity Act’) as well as maintaining a work environment conducive to the upliftment of previously disadvantaged groups specifically pertaining to gender and disability.

The hearings ultimately served as a platform to establish the challenges being experienced and measures being put in place by government departments and the private sector, to comply with employment equity prescripts and requirements relating to gender and disability, as provided for in the Employment  Equity  Act as well as the Promotion of the Elimination and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination  Act  No 4 of 2000.

The KZN office of the CGE has compiled its report into the matter and you are therefore requested to send one (1) representative to the Employment Equity (EE) dialogue to discuss the findings of  the KZN  report into Gender Transformation in the workplace.
