Interfaith Prayer meeting for good governance

Public Protector Adv Thuli Madonsela in partnership with the Freedom Park under the stewardship of its Chief Executive, Mr Fana Jiyane will on Thursday, 24 October 2013 at 10h00, host an Interfaith-Prayer meeting for Good Governance in Pretoria.

The event is part of the National Good Governance Week which aims to raise awareness regarding the need for a collective consciousness of good governance; understanding of the importance of good governance in ensuring responsive service delivery; and understanding the importance of ethical leadership in ensuring good governance and integrity in state affairs among other things.

Speaking at the closing of the Good Governance conference on Tuesday, the Public Protector said that the high level of corruption in the country showed that there is a need for a moral regeneration.

The event will bring together representatives from all faith communities including but not limited to the Christian, Judaism, Muslims, Hindu, Buddhism, African Traditional Faith, Rastafarianism, Baha’i, the Jewish Board of Deputies and all other religious groups.

The Interfaith Prayer initiative aims to also explore the role various religious and spiritual leaders can play in taking the fight against corruption and maladministration forward and strengthening good governance and poverty eradication. The Chairperson of Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities will at the event, deliver a statement of intent aimed at articulating the vision of the Public Protector in initiating this prayer meeting which from now onwards, will form part of the annual good governance week activities.

Venue:  Freedom Park, Leaders Gallery, Corner Koch and 7th Avenue, Salvokop, Pretoria to be followed by a tour of the Freedom Park Museum.
